Material Properties
Component Supply offers stainless steel straightened wire lab kits to provide a selection of wire in a range of diameters to labs and shops. Designed with researchers, product developers and repair technicians in mind, these kits offer various sizes for testing and repair. Each lab kit offers three pieces of 12" wire in every diameter separated into plastic storage tubes, which are individually labeled with a description and dimensional specifications. These tubes are organized in a high-quality plastic, divided storage box. Component Supply's stock of 304 stainless steel mandrel wire is spring tempered, drawn and straightened with a bright finish. It is an ideal material for non-implantable medical devices. 304 is strong and flexible and can be easily welded or soldered. This wire is available in 0.001" increments for diameters ranging from 0.003" to 0.150". Please note: 304 always is designated with a V (Vacuum Arc Remelted) for diameter sizes of 0.040" and down, but sizes larger than that may not be designated with a V. 304 includes minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel with a maximum of 0.08% carbon. It is in the chromium-nickel austenitic alloy family, and with its low carbon, it is preferable for applications requiring welding.

This stainless steel wire is used widely in a variety of industries including medical and aerospace. Common applications include use in catheter mandrels, stylets, introducers, push pull rods and guide wire assemblies.
