Plastic & Metal Luer Fittings & Stopcocks
Material Properties
Luer Fittings: are available in three plastic materials: polycarbonate, polypropylene, and nylon as well as polycarbonate Luer stopcocks as part of a standard system to connect small diameter tubing with leak-proof connections. These Luer stopcocks are composed of a polycarbonate body and a polyethylene arm/hand. The Luer fittings have a 6% taper on the male which engages with the female to provide a secure friction connection as a slip.
Stainless steel Luer fittings: provide connections between a male-taper fitting and its mating female part on medical and laboratory instruments, such as between syringes and hypodermic needles or between stopcocks and certain dispensing tips. Their prominent use is to connect tubing and equipment for the transfer of fluids and gases where a non-permanent, leak-proof connection needs be made. Stainless steel Luers are efficient in higher temperatures and can be sterilized using an autoclave. They are more corrosion resistant than their nylon, polypropylene and polycarbonate counterparts.
Non-sterile Luer assemblies: designed for use in the lab and for testing purposes. The polycarbonate Luer fitting comes with either a general purpose PVC tubing or certain Tygon® tubing. It is linear, low-crystalline and transparent, and the combination of its strength and elasticity prevents deformation, making it ideal for applications requiring durability.
MicroFittings™: Luer fittings are specifically designed to connect small-bore, flexible tubing into a standard liquid or gas circuit using a single Luer fitting. They are constructed with a proprietary polypropylene Luer adaptor body and a stainless steel element used to connect the microbore tubing. Luer fittings are available in both male and female configurations. These reusable, non-sterile MicroFittings™ accommodate the range of microbore tubing with interior diameters ranging from 0.010" to 0.050". The stainless steel element ensures a precise, secure fit over the entire length of the metal insert.
Markets & Applications ▼
Luer fittings are widely used in laboratories, medical devices and intervention therapies. Some examples are gas chromatography, cell research, intravenous catheters, feeding tubes, ventilators and the common hypodermic syringe. Often, these stainless steel fittings are used on devices as a fixed component. Small-bore connectors like these Luers are used extensively in the medical field where medical devices are connected to tubing and accessories responsible for delivering fluids and gases to patients. Other applications include uses in blood pressure cuffs, breathing systems, feeding tubes, intravenous devices, catheters and many more.
Custom Fabrication & Contract Manufacturing ▼
Component Supply stocks polypropylene Luer fittings and connectors in production quantities. However, in our commitment to research and product design, we offer these parts as well as other related products without minimum order requirements. We sell each fitting individually and offer price breaks for larger quantities.
